    My first blog here.

To be honest this is my first blog ever.  I am Woody Motschenbacher a student in the Respiratory Care program here at Tyler Junior College in Tyler Texas.  I never thought of myself as a medical worker type, I have an electrical license, can build a house from the ground up, can fix just about any car or motorcycle on the road, and fall into the classic Biker category from first appearance, but I just got tired of doing those kind of jobs, no real satisfaction swinging a hammer or bending pipe.  In fact it was getting difficult to even get up and go to work.  The fourth of July holiday weekend night mare of 08 was the turning point...

I had gone to the national meeting of the Club I belong to in Oklahoma City, my bike had broke down twice while there, I thought I had it fixed till i got almost to Hugo OK, and it died on me again.  Stranded on the Indian Nation Turnpike I had a few hours to sit and think while my wife got the trailer and truck to me.  Five hours of sitting on the side of the road, I though about how much I hate the fact that my life still seems to be going nowhere.  I've got four kids depending on me to bring home some bacon and beans, and provide for their every whim.  My current job sucks and doesn't pay for much but day care.  I'm gone all the time, missing out on the twins growing up.  On the way to the house I told my wife that I wanted to go to school for Respiratory Therapy.  I'm not really sure why I picked Resp.care, but my wife had me enrolled the very next day, and today am about to start the second of four semesters in the program.  I managed to get all 36 hours of prerequisites in two semesters and two summer semesters.

I learned while in clinical's what the term patient advocate really meant. And today I look forward to the chances to help people who desperately need it.
