About Me
I am a 39 year mother of a wonderful young man. My son is 21 years old and he is a full-time college student at the local community college and is hoping to be accepted into the PTA program. I am a registered respiratory therapist and I am trying to get back into the field after a long absence related to a major health event in my life. Several years ago I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer which happened during the last semester of my course work for the respiratory program. I finished the program along with the surgery, the chemo and radiation therapy and I graduated a week after my last chemo session. I went to work right after my WBC came up enough so that I wouldn't get sick. I loved working and I actually thought everything would be great until several months later when I started losing the function in both of my legs. After many diagnostic tests I was told the radiation therapy that may have saved my life was the cause of my paralysis and neuropathy. The problem was a progressive process and within 11 months post radiation I was essentially wheelchair bound. I was at this point out of work and very depressed. During this time I started working on obtaining a BS in Health Management and researching a new form of treatment for my problem. I was started on high dose steroids and I actually convinced my doctors to try hyperbaric therapy. As a result of both therapies I am no longer depending on a wheelchair and I am healthy enough to once again return to work with the blessing of my doctors and my family. I am sorry for being so long winded but I need to find a job and someone to give me a chance. I was a great therapist in my first job and I know that I will even better now with all the compassion I carry in my heart for patients that are afflicted with chronic illnesses. Most companies shy away from me because of my health issues and the fact that I have been out of work for so many years. I just want everyone to know that I am the same person on the inside as I was when I was working in my first respiratory job many years before. I am also very much open to taking a medical sales position or some type of management position even if it means taking a bottom level job as long as I have an opportunity to work up in the company.
