A day in the life of...

Friday, March 28, 2008, 12:40 PM EST [General]

...a Valley Healthcare Recruiter.  (Does anyone really read these?)  This is really my first blog writing ever.  I figure this is as good a place as any to try it out without feeling too much like a newb.  So anyway, yesterday was a whole ___load of fun.  Valley owners decided to take the entire office out to a corporate office day, so we had a short day.

I started my day off by checking in with the nurses who work with me...make sure all is good, time cards are in, etc.  Pondered on going to McDonalds for a breakfast burrito meal, but got rescued by a Starbuck's mocha and muffin.  So much healthier.  Attempted to contact prosepective travel nurses  (I looooove leaving messages on voicemails...its what I always imagined doing when I was a little kid)  Did manage to contact a RN in Tucson, AZ.  (This is the fun part of my job...I really do like talking to people who come from so many parts of the country)  She has been a nurse for the better part of 20+ years and told me of an unfortunate incident in the ER in Tucson.  Apparently, Tucson needs help in their ERs...a man had to wait 8 hours in the waiting area to be seen by a physician and when finally re-admitted it was too late.  I was curious so I looked it up...apparently there was a nasty log-jam of patients...the case is under internal review...the man may have died from sepsis (but not confirmed yet).

2 o'clock came around pretty quick so I wrapped up my desk and headed out to the corporate fun day.  The owners of Valley took us to a local indoor go-cart race track (RPM in Sacramento) where all of the employees had a chance to race against each other.  If you ever have a chance to race go-carts...you HAVE to do it.  It was a BLAST!!!  One of my co-workers, unfortunately, got hit so hard the wheels flew off.  Then we had our resident crazy lady go psycho aggressive on the track and got pulled into the timeout area multiple times (one for flipping the track coordinator off...good times).  One thing that I can say without fail is that the Valley owners to their best to take care of everyone who works for them...nurses AND employees.   It's very nice to see.

We have a softball team too.  We play tonight.  Yeah...we're 0-2 but I guarantee we are the loudest, funnest bunch of aspiring softball players that field has ever seen.  (Our penchant for bringing the happy juice helps out too)  Well...thats it for now...y'all have a wonderful day!
