Key Passage: Luke 18:15-17
Topic: Faith/Trust
"Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the
kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." (Luke 18:17, ESV)
One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so He could bless them. But the disciples shooed them away. What were these men thinking? That Jesus was too important and too busy to be bothered with little kids?
But Jesus surprised His disciples! He called the children back. What an impression that must have made on those little ones--first they're turned away: "Go away. Jesus is too busy to bless you."
Now it's a quick, "Come back."
Not only does Jesus want to see them, He tells everyone within earshot, "If all you grown-up carpenters or shopkeepers or whatever want to go to heaven, you must have "child-like" faith in Me as God's Son."
Those boys and girls must have felt big and important: Jesus wanted to see them! And not only that, He was holding them up as an example to adults. It was their child-like faith that He acknowledged.
That kind of faith--child-like faith--is an easy, accepting belief, unencumbered by "modern thinking," free from what's "politically correct," and not confused by endless analysis.
And Jesus said that's the kind of faith you need to have it you want a relationship with God and want to enter heaven.
