Our Our Arctic Husky "Ali" (the white one) is the most wonderful dog. She has always had lots of spirit, has always been very affectionate and loving, and never complains about anything. This picture is a few years old. If you saw her now, you'd be amazed at how she has deteriorated. She has diabetes, kidney problems, and has recently developed a neurological disorder that causes her not be be able to blink out of one of her eyes. She looks like she's been in a street fight. She is also getting very skinny, and is pretty listless much of the time. She's 13, and we're very depressed over her condition, as she's not herself anymore, and it looks like we're going to lose her one of these days very soon. This is the sad part of having great pets, as you fall deeply in love with them, and don't get to keep them long enough. It sucks, but we know that we've given each other a lifetime of love, and we're glad for every day that we still have her. Everyone should have such a wonderful pet.

Ken, I am so sorry about your pup "Ali". I hope she rebounds and lives happily for some more time. I dread the day that my pup gets to that point. She is my heart. She has been with me for so many of the tough times and happy times in my life. We have gone through a lot together. I will keep "Ali" in my thoughts. What type of treatment are you doing for the Kidney problems?

Sorry to hear about your puppy dog. Pets are an important part of our lives. I had a dog a few years back and had to put her to sleep. She had gotten to the point where she wouldn't go outside to the bathroom, wouldnt eat, and couldnt climb the stairs. She had even gotten a bit aggressive with the kids. She was a dearly loved part of the family.

I have an older dog too. Her name is Bitsy and she's a major part of our family. She's almost 9 and I can see the difference in her within the past year. It breaks my heart to think of not having her around but I know the inevitable will happen one day.

Thanks for all of your kind words. Ali has rebounded a bit since I made my post. Nothing has really changed about her prognosis, but we'll take every day, and the good ones are terrific. I don't know about her medicines, as her wonderful Mommy handles that.

We have a dog that's getting pretty old. I think he can't see too well either. He runs into walls. There hasn't been any talk about putting him out of his misery yet, but if he ever starts acting like he is in pain, I'm sure that's what will happen.

Unless she's much better tomorrow (which no one thinks she will be), the Vet is going to put down our precious Ali tomorrow. On top of everything else, they now think she has a Brain Tumor, and it's causing her to get worse Neurologically. She's been a wonderful member of our family, and if it happens, we will all miss her tremendously. She could not have been a more wonderful pet. :(

Sor sorry, Ken. We do think of our pets almost as children and an important part of our families. They give us unconditional love.

Thanks Marti. I expect this to be a very tough week, though leaving for vacation on Thursday should help. We had one other dog that was put down, but we didn't know it in advance. We woke up in the morning, and found that our first Husky, Daisy, couldn't stand. We carried her to the car, took her to the animal hospital, and they told us that she was filled with Cancer. She never left the hospital. There was absolutely no sign before that morning. It was incredible. This is very different. Of our 3 dogs, I love them all, but this is my extra special girl. She is a shadow of her former self, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Lots of discussion at the dinner table tonight. Robin and the Vet decided this together, but our 2 kids and I want to hear the Vet's opinion first hand. We don't want to put Ali down unless she's either suffering or it's 100% necessary. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
