My only advice for you would be to check with your local county public assistance office to see if they can offer you any guidance on where to go or who to contact to get help for your sister. I do know that there are usually county agencies that help people with developmental disabilities and these organizations will often help those with mental health issues as well, they just don't make that public knowledge to avoid those people that abuse the system. I hope this offers some help.

I have a question regarding getting low cost emergency help for people with bipolar disorder. It seems to me that this is something that differs from state to state in the United States. I have a family member who is bipolar and she has had manic attacks once in a great while. Is there some service nationwide that offers low cost emergency medical assistance?

As I said, it seems to differ from state to state. When we lived in California (Santa Barbara, specifically) and she was manic, she went to some sort of center (by way of a very understanding policeman) where she and I were evaluated and she was prescribed an anti-psychotic.

In time, she was starting to get better back then when she was taking this medicine. Since I was not aware of the details of her illness -- and thought she was having a nervous breakdown (and I did not trust the psychiatry industry back then) I had her spend time with some relatives. But all this is in the past.

We are not living in California now. We are living in Washington State. And I do not see any similar organization around. Is there?
