    Arthritis

Sunday, May 18, 2008, 11:01 AM EST [General]

We all know that arthritis is debilitating.  There are many myths associated with arthritis.  One is lack of calcium, another is poor posture, strenuous exercise, cracking your knuckles, etc.  The list goes on.

As arthritis myths go this is a biggie, . When you "crack" a joint you're actually either snapping the ligament over the joint or pulling on the joint, which causes a negative nitrogen bubble. "You're not cracking the bone, just manipulating the joint to make it feel better," a well-known Dr says.  My mother always warned that popping my knuckles could lead to arthritis when I got older.  Hey Mom, not so.  :).
