The palmaris longus muscle originates from the common flexor tendon and passes superficial to the flexor retinaculum. It then merges with the palmar aponeurosis. It's action is to flex the hand and tighten the palmar aponeurosis. The palmaris longus is a superficial muscle of the forearm of the ventral group.
