    Setting the Stage

After observing the rhetoric of the U.S. Congress, both the House of Representatives and the Senate, I've concluded that I will blog about my personal opinions concerning health care and the federal government's task of health reform.  Understand that I have friends that would not believe that I'm posting a blog; therefore, as I proceed take that notion in consideration.  I've elected to take up this endeavor because I believe that I'm providing useful information and insight on the selected issues.

For brevity's sake, allow me to submit my range of experience in health care.  I am well acquainted with the health care delivery system.  My first hand experience includes providing direct nursing care and medical treatment, performing medical diagnostic examinations and tests, preparing prescription medication, and counseling on health care regulatory policy. With that said, these familiarities demonstrate the scope of my knowledge in health care is far reaching.

Let's not be mistaken, health care is a lucrative business with two major parts, the administrative or policy branch and the delivery or provider branch.  I referenced this aspect because it addresses a significant, but frequently overlooked, characteristic of health care.  It is my opinion, recognizing and understanding the roles of each branch helps to explain health care's fundamental dilemma.  That might be a topic of another bolg on another day.

As I have suggested, health care consists of two distinct parts, and each exist in atmospheres that are often drastically separate.  With that said, the selected issure that I will touch on are the notion that a government option will lower health care quality, the subject of end of life counseling, socialized medicine, the insurance mandate, the choice of coverage to keep current plan, tort reform and the practice of defensive medicine.  Mind you, this list is not exhaustive of the issues in health care and not in order of importance, but all should get the idea.

Although I'm primarily a health care consultant involved with health care policy, my real passion is as a health care provider and my beliefs about being patient-centric are devotedly viable.  At the same time, I strive to effectively take up concerns around health care policy, especially those that results in efficiency in delivery that might create the best benefit of all.  My intention with my health care blogging is to get individuals thinking significantly different about health care.

Finally let me briefly state, in the future my subjects will shift within health care, but the foundation will stay the same.  My objective is to urge people to view health care with a different attitude.  Assorted readers may take issue with my individual assessments with regard to health care, and I respect that, however after working in health care for over 25 years I feel qualified to do so.  At this time the landscape is established, tune in next time.
