    Tips for First-Time Travelers

Monday, October 13, 2008, 02:25 PM EST [General]

In a recent newsletter, we included some of our favorite tips to share with first-time travelers. We thought it would be good to share them with current or would-be travel healthcare professionals on this site as well.

    1) Make time to enjoy each new area you visit. Traveling is an opportunity to see parts of the country you have never seen before, so visit some of the tourist spots and find some of your own favorite places.

    2) You can increase your earnings quite a bit by picking up an extra shift on occasion. Overtime pay is high for travelers.

    3) Keeping your credentials up to date makes sure you are submitted early for positions and can start as soon as you like, and it's easy - we'll let you know when something is about to expire.

    4) Try to meet other travelers at your facility. They can help you get to know your job and your surroundings and make good sight-seeing buddies.

Fun Ways to Make a 12-Hour Shift Easier

Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 01:12 PM EST [General]

For some medical professionals, a 12-hour shift can mean tired eyes, feet, and backs. Here are a couple of neat ideas to keep you refreshed and energized.

Change your socks on your break halfway through your shift, or use some energizing lotion on your feet. This will give tired feet a refreshed feeling.

Brush your teeth after you eat your lunch. A minty-clean mouth can make you feel more like smiling.

You can find heat wraps now that fit many areas of the body and provide temporary relief for sore muscles.

Use eye drops if you wear contacts or to give dry, tired eyes a wake-up call.

Keeping an arsenal of funny jokes to tell your patients and co-workers can give everyone's spirits a lift.

What helps you stay happy and energized during a long shift? We would love to hear it!

    Holiday Bonuses

Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 03:04 PM EST [General]

It's hard to believe, but it is almost time for the holidays once again. We would like to hear from medical professionals about what they would like to receive for holiday bonuses. What pay do you think is fair for working on a holiday? What other types of gifts would you like in addition to holiday pay? What bonuses would you like to receive if you choose not to work on a holiday? What were some of your favorite or least favorite gifts? We are anxious to hear your opinions. Thanks!

    Cancer Awareness in September

Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 12:13 PM EST [General]

Today it is a rare family that has not been touched by cancer. In September many events are scheduled to increase awareness and help fund the fight for cures for many forms of the disease. September serves as National Awareness Month for Ovarian, Childhood, Gynecologic, and Prostate Cancer, as well as Leukemia and Lymphoma. Today, September 16th, is also Take a Loved One for a Check-Up Day. This month presents many great opportunities for us to remember and honor our loved ones who have been diagnosed with cancer, and to add our strength to the fight for a cure.
