Those looking for Houston medical jobs may want to consider working at one of the city's top-performing hospitals.

U.S. News & World Report recently released its list of the Best Hospitals for 2011. This year hospitals were ranked in each of the nation's 52 largest metropolitan areas. Of the 94 hospitals in the Houston metro area, which also includes Baytown and Sugar Land, 24 are considered to be top-ranking.

The specialties at each hospital were ranked both nationally and locally. In Houston, seven hospitals had specialties that ranked on a national level, while 20 had high-performing specialties that ranked on a local level.

The top hospitals in the Houston area include:

• Methodist Hospital - 13 nationally-ranked specialties.
• University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center - Six nationally-ranked specialties and five high-performing specialties.
• St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital - Five nationally-ranked specialties and seven high-performing specialties.
• Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center - Four nationally-ranked specialties and seven high-performing specialties.
• Menninger Clinic - One nationally-ranked specialty.
• Texas Orthopedic Hospital - One nationally-ranked specialty.
• TIRR Memorial Hermann - One nationally-ranked specialty.
• Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center - Six high-performing specialties.
• San Jacinto Methodist Hospital - Six high-performing specialties.
• Houston Northwest Medical Center - Four high-performing specialties.
• Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center - Four high-performing specialties.
• University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals - Three high-performing specialties.
• Harris County Hospital District - Two high-performing specialties.
• Mainland Medical Center - Two high-performing specialties.
• Methodist Willowbrook Hospital - Two high-performing specialties.
