Students preparing for San Diego medical jobs now have a new option.
California College San Diego recently announced the creation of a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration. Students in the program will be trained in business and clinical skills required for managerial roles in healthcare settings.
Those applying to the program must have a high school diploma and undergo a campus interview and orientation before beginning classes. They also must explain how they plan to finance their education.
California College San Diego works to educate students about the various federal loans and grants available to them. Another plus - classes begin each month, so students don't have to wait for a new academic year.
Through the program, students will learn various aspects of clinical and non-clinical healthcare administration, including anatomy and physiology, accounting, insurance and healthcare reimbursement, healthcare policy and economics, healthcare finance and management.
The program will further teach students the skills that healthcare administrators need in order to perform their job, including strategic planning, resource management, leadership and other office procedures.
Graduates of the program can expect to find jobs as managers in hospitals, doctors' offices, community health centers, home healthcare services, nursing homes and other facilities.
"The aging population of the country has led to an explosion in demand for healthcare professionals and the industry is going to witness unparalleled growth over the next few years," the company said in a press release.
The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the healthcare industry will continue to expand, leading to a faster-than-average growth rate for medical and health service managers.
The BLS also expects there to be good job opportunities for healthcare administrators, especially those with strong business and management skills.
