There are plenty of places to look for medical jobs in Miami.
The healthcare industry is one of the few considered to be recession proof. In most places throughout the country, including Miami, the healthcare industry has continued to see a monthly and yearly increase in employment, despite the current economic recession.
The Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall area's education and health services industry employed 157,200 workers during October, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 156,000 workers during September and a 1 percent increase from last year.
Facilities in the Miami area, which accounts for the largest concentration of medical facilities in Florida, provide comprehensive human and social services through a large number of programs.
Residents have access to a variety of county programs, including emergency assistance, mental health care, substance abuse treatment and prevention, homeless shelters and veteran services.
According to an article by City-Data.com, Miami-Dade County, where Miami is located, is home to 28 hospitals that employ more than 32,000 licensed healthcare professionals.
Jackson Memorial Hospital, which is considered one of the best and largest hospitals in the country, is located in Miami. As the only public hospital in Miami-Dade County and home of the only Level 1 trauma center in South Florida, JMH treats more than 95 percent of trauma victims in the area.
JMH is affiliated with the University of Miami School of Medicine and is known for research work in a number of fields, especially eye and blood diseases, diabetes and back pain.
Other notable parts of the hospital include: a burn center, spinal cord injury center, organ transplant program, Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute/Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital, Mailman Center for Child Development, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, National Parkinson Foundation, Diabetes Research Institute and the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
Baptist Hospital owns several medical facilities in the Miami area, including Miami Children's Hospital, which is the only hospital in South Florida licensed especially in treating children.
Non-profit MCH currently employs more than 650 workers. It contains the largest freestanding pediatric teaching hospital in the Southeastern United States and has a tele-education program that teaches Latin American and Caribbean students.
Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami, University of Miami Hospital and Mercy Hospital are other well-known medical facilities that call the Miami area home.
