Hello everyone, I'm a Registered Respiratory Therapist in TX. I wonder if there is any RTs in this group. Anyway, I'm new to everywhere I go now including here as well. I graduated a university in Missouri last summer with BS of Health Science and Respiratory Care. OMG, how should I begin... After that, I completed my ACLS certificate and Registry here in TX and officially became a Texas RT but this economy and job marketing are both not pretty for a hard-working new grad. Especially moving to TX from MO made it difficult Idk. In short, I need a job! Although 2009 will be the new beginning for me, if anybody know places needing a RT, bag em' till I get there!!! And, thanks for reading this far, you deserve a 1/4 CEU for that lol

Hey guys and gals, I have been a traveling PT for over 3 years. Being single, wanting experience in every setting possible and living in different locations to scratch my traveling itch, all make the traveling life amazingly fulfilling, professionally and personally.

However, through my own experiences and talking with other travelers, one thing became very clear: the current set-up of the industry is very slanted towards the companies benefit, at the expense of your informed choices. We really do not have a good way of knowing what situation we are going in to, unless we have had a friend work at the facility, or its close to home. I, literally, drove across the country with the *hope* that my assignment was going to be exactly what my company and my 10 minute interview with the facility had alluded to.

So, I have started a website, solely for traveling therapists (PT, OT and SLP), which will hopefully right the ship, and tilt the information in our favor. It aims to provide details and rankings on companies, recruiters, facilities, etc. so that if you are in Florida and wanting to travel to Seattle, you can check out previous therapists rankings of the area, the job, the leadership... all the way down to the specifics of the benefits of the various companies that can place you there.

So, if you are a traveler, or are wanting to travel professionally, please check out

    www.medtravelerclub.com/

Joining is easy and contributing to the database takes no time at all. After that, the cumulative knowledge and experiences of our travelers will be at your disposal, leading to better, more informed choices about all of your traveling assignments and career path.

The site itself is nascent, but the membership is growing, and therefore, the accumulated knowledge in this very rewarding part of therapy is as well. Join us in sharing your knowledge and experiences from your past travel assignments, and use the "collective" to make a better choice for your next one.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Are Laboratory Managers Really Concerned with The Shortage in Medical Laboratory Personnel? Their Hiring Requirements Seem to Dictate Otherwise.

Why aren't lab managers or directors willing to give entry level laboratorians a chance? Some of us struggled to obtain certification yet we run into those lab managers or directors who require experience that we don't have or certification from a specific certification agency. Are they really concerned with the shortage in medical laboratory personnel? Their hiring requirements dictate otherwise. Why they're not willing to hire and train certified entry level MT's or mlt's continues to be a matter of pure conjecture, more so selfishness. Not long ago while conducting a telephonic interview with a Colorado lab manager he informed me that he wasn't allowed to hire AMT certified mlt's and that he doesn't hire candidates who have no instrumentation experience. Hire and train us MT's or mlt's whether our certification is through ASCP, AMT or NCA. We have to start some where. Curbing the lab personnel shortage starts with nondiscriminatory/fair hiring practices.

I'm very happy to see other medical professionals looking for work. Please don't get discouraged. Job hunting is an 8hr job. Keep searching with strong aggression and motivation. The Lord says "SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND" Matthew 7:7. Our great group leader Ken provides links to jobs and created this great medical professional social arena for us medical professionals to mingle. Through this network we may find what we are looking for. Don't forget to periodically check with Monster, Careerbuilder and hotjobs. Also,u can log onto Google and submit your job title and see what comes up. I'm not going to wish you good luck because it's perseverance that gets us what we want, not luck!

Hello Everyone, I thought that I was on my way to Hawaii to start a job as a mlt. Unfortunately, the employer wanted to reimburse me for relocation cost when I needed the relocation money up front. I guess that my inexperience as a mlt had a lot to do with the situation. I'm certified with 15 yrs phlebotomy exp but I don't have any specimen testing exp. Well, they say that one door closes for another door to open, "Thank You Jesus". Any who, if there are any lab managers in this fabulous group willing to hire an entry level mlt please consider me. I will make a 2 yr comittment to stay with the lab who is willing to hire and train me. I'm willing to relocate to anywhere and would appreciate relocation assistance. My final goal is to become a medical technologist. Thanks.
