    Spring in Kentucky

Sunday, May 18, 2008, 09:42 AM EST [General]

Hello all. I hope that everyone is doing well. After a long, wet, miserable Winter, Spring is a very welcome break here at Fort Knox. It really is very beautiful here in the Spring. Though this must be one of the allergy capitals of the world. I have treated a lot of miserable itchy, congested, sneezy patients this Spring.

Fort Knox has been somewhat boring for me, but it has been wonderful for the kids. They really enjoy this neighborhood, where there are so many other kids to play with. they have made good friends. Of course - the downside to living on post - the friends so often have to move away so soon.

They have made me - temporarily, I hope - the head nurse in my little clinic in addition to working as an NP there. They had a civilian GS nurse in that position who quit to open a bar. They have been dragging their feet in replacing here. A lot cheaper and easier to ask Major Ford to fill in for a while. I am so busy seeing patients, I don't really have time to give that role any real justice. My biggest complaint is that these LPN's - all women - can't get along. Oh my goodness, folks. This is an easy gig for LPN's. Why do they have to squabble and pick at eachother like a bunch of hens? But, to be honest, my NCOIC, a staff sergeant - who is also a recent arrival to the clinic - has stepped up and is doing a very good job of managing the clinic. My title is, well, sort of in name only. Somebody to blame when things go wrong. Someone to get credit when my NCOIC does a good job. though in truth he should get the credit. He is a very squared away NCOIC.

There is good fishing for the kids and me here on post. Well, good places to go fishing - we do not catch that many. Guess I'm not much of a fisherman.
